26

Here comes another.

Another sun, another moon.

Here it is and I almost

didn't see it coming.

Another anniversary,

another Laker game like when

we went to the Eagle's Nest

with a great view of the lake

and Bird and Magic

on the television screen

bolted to the wall.

Another bouquet of

something freshly

picked or bought or both,

wet stems in a tall vase.

Another date on lower State

(your water, my coffee,

Shirley Temple and a beer)

some things never change.

Another table set for two

to dine like me and you

used to do back in

Arguello days,

an early phase when

shag covered wooden floors

window views of harbor shores

stretched out like you

can stretch so well

back when we learned to never tell

our secrets made when darkness fell

like fog that

fills the bay up deep

another day, another night to sleep

another think I may, I might

just find you in my arms tonight

and I never saw it coming,

no I always saw it coming,

back when I saw you

coming up that path

wet hair and all

your mountain's majesty,

your legs, your eyes smile

up at me as if to say hello

I know a place for us to go,

a spin around the block,

around a record we would

someday call our own,

a ship, a shadow from

another moon,

another song that finds the dark

lit by another candle's flame

after we find the night together,

wrapped into that perfect fit,

another "this is it,"

another clock that clicks

another year makes twenty-six
